If you're running your own 'self-hosted' Wordpress website - it needs protection as much as your laptop.
After having rescued a website that was unkindly hijacked over the Christmas holidays, here's a quick reminder of the 3 things you absolutely need to do for minimalist website security:
- you must have good passwords and keep control of your user accounts
- keep the building blocks of your website up to date - Wordpress, plugins and themes - especially plugins
- keep regular off-site backups, in case you have to replace your website from scratch.
It's a big risk not to be doing these things. And, if you are concerned, there are several tools you can use to protect your logins and contact forms, automate backups, add a firewall, or add encryption. I'm happy to discuss the options with you.
